Abstract

This course challenges students to consider the design of a high-rise or multi storey building of significant complexity. It encourages students to critically assess the architectural relevance and values of a project proposal within an urban setting. They are to resolve a design task that integrates various aspects of architectural concerns including client’s brief, contextual issues, structural rationality, services applications and requirements. The proposals should exhibit competency in producing a scheme that resolves site layout, efficient and flexible planning of interior space, basement parking layout, interior spaces which are responsive to human needs and comfort, materiality, façade design, as well as the project contribution to the urban environment. Knowledge of prevailing planning and building by-laws is also important.
