Abstract

This course gives the overview of the agriculture sector in Malaysia namely the estate subsector and the smallholders subsector. The course also includes how the National Agriculture Policy (NAP) was developed.Also included will be Quarantine Act 1976 and the Pesticides Act 1974 which come in as supplementary and complimentary to international trade. This course also gives insight on the transformation of traditional farmers to commercial farmers to ensure quality and food safety, with various government assisted accreditation programs such as SALM, SPLAM and other related schemes and at the same time promoting sustainable agriculture making sure the food conforms to international standards.
