The involvement of university students in volunteerism activities / Hanis Arifah Mohd Shauki and Liyana Amirah Lokman

Nowadays, youth voiunteerism is very crucial in developing a community especially among university students that had great potential to serve as volunteers. The main objectives of it are to explore the student's participation in voiunteerism activities and to determine the factors that influence student's involvement in it. A convenience sampling technique had been used and about 217 students of final year degree of Faculty of Psychology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) had been chosen to be our respondent for this research. As for the questionnaires, it has 2 section which is Section A for personal information and Section B for the independent variables which consists of 5 main question including recognition, awareness, self- motivation and family. The data then were been analyzed by using Reliability Test, Normality Test, Descriptive Test, and Multiple Regression Analysis of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 2.0. The result showed that all variables are positively influenced the involvement of university student in volunteerism activities. However, there is one variable that indicates has highly influenced the student involvement which is self-motivation among university student in UMS.
