Relationship between education level and rate of dowry among Kadazandusun Murut community and others in Kg. Hungab Penampang, Sabah / Dg Nazrina Ag Nasrin and Shira Yunus

Dowry means gifts from the groom to the bride at the time of marriage. It varies in terms of the rate depend on several factors, for example education level. This dowry becomes a cultural practice as a wedding ritual since mid-nineteenth century. However, dowry rate become a burning issue year by year due to mentality of people that higher level of education should contribute to a higher dowry rate. This study examines what are the relationships between education level and rate of dowry whereby to investigate the rate of dowry in relation to education level and whether the rate of dowry based on education level is a problem among the KadazanDusun Murut community and others in Kg. Hungab Penampang, Sabah. Data were collected by using primary and secondary data whereby in primary data the questionnaire were distributed to the target respondent meanwhile for secondary data from the trusted sources, namely journal and articles regarding the issue. The sample of this study is 152 respondents selected in the area of Kg.Hungab Penampang, Sabah comprises married couples and single people that came from the KadazanDusun Murut community and others especially the non-muslim. This study concerned with the education level as the independent variable and dependent variable is referring to the rate of dowry. Based on the result from the correlation test, this study proved that the education level has a significant association with the rate of dowry.
