Abstract

This research study hopes to look into the concepts and form of Art Teaching Portfolio (ATP) which has been extensively used both local and foreign in universities and schools. The key message of this research is to emphasize the importance for university students and art teachers to change their techniques of learning and teaching to something more interesting, creative and dynamic to attract their students in Art Education. This change involves breaking the 2D traditional form to a more sophisticated dynamic form of 3D or even 4D. To ensure the success of the new ATP creation and implementation, it has to start from the university level and be carried on when they become art teachers. This approach is expected to guarantee a more effective outcome of learning. The ATP has to be delivered differently so that it is more interesting, creative and effective. University students and art teachers have to improve their technical skills in diversifying the teaching approaches, material utilization and creative activities in art education. Duncum has suggested that every teacher has to "explore numerous materials or one material in numerous ways" (Duncum, 1999). Appropriate skills and abilities in practical art are required to produce a quality ATP as an art form so that it would attract students to learn art. Art students and teachers are recommended to produce these ATPs to ensure a high quality in teaching art education. Consequently, the teaching process would become more interesting and suitable to the student's abilities and future needs. This research study recommends art education degree students improve their ATP's to be an artform as well as enhance their skills and techniques practical because the present school students have become more challenging in their studies. Art education degree student should prepared themselves to a higher level of art knowledge especially in handling tools, materials and techniques so that their new ATP's should become an art form.
