Abstract

Financial difficulties are the money problem that can cause stress to the people. Its also can cause many problems to the people. Many people are facing hard financial time especially the college student. Mostly, the non-resident students are facing the financial difficulties during their study period. Non-resident student is a student of a college or university who lives outside the area of a college or university for a set period of time. In other word, the non-resident student is the students who stay outside the campus during their study time. Usually, the non-resident student are the students who renting a house outside the campus. Nowadays, due to the economic problem, most of the students rely on loan to further their studies. They rely on loan to get them through college because their family unable to afford to pay the education fees for their children to further the study. For example, many students get a loan from Perbadanan Tabling Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) to further their studies. This will cause the student to accumulate debts before they enter into a working environment. According to Gladieux (1997), the students are borrowing more, working less, and finishing college with greater indebtedness. If the students have many debts before they start working, it will affect their monthly income because they have to pay the debts every month. Financial difficulties are a common problem that face by the students, especially for the non-resident students. Due to the financial problem that face by them, the students who live off campus tended to eat instant noodles or skipping their meals to save money, since the food was not provided with their housing (Masud.J, 2004).
