Enlivening Likas Lagoon retention pond Kota Kinabalu, Sabah into a conducive public spaces through ecological design approach/ Marissa Darlingka Kassim

This study is carry out in the means of understanding the environment and ecological in pond area especially in the retention pond and to create a quality public space at Likas Lagoon retention Pond, Kata Kinabalu, Sabah. This research focuses on the important of public spaces in the same time protecting the wildlife habitat. The retention pond at Likas Lagoon is one of potential area to develop into a successful public spaces through ecological approach. Thus, this study aims at facilitating the researchers in their conservation movement with integration between built and natural environment through ecological design. Through ecological design also can push the boundary between man and nature whereby there would be increased in understanding and bonding towards the natural environment. The result is a summarizing design that systematically satisfies human needs and environmental protection. In the nutshell, ecological design is crucial in term of designing in the natural sensitive condition whereby it would produce a sustainable environment to facilitate human activities and protect natural biodiversity.
