The conformity of code of practice for means of escape of disabled people in orthopaedic ward / Mohd Hafizan Mohtar

This research is based on the study of the conformity of means of escape for disabled people in orthopaedic ward. It is focused on the conformity for means of escape that refers to Malaysian Standard 1183: Part 8 : Code of Practice for Means of Escape for Disabled People. This study due to the problem statement stated in the earlier research that there is lack of awareness on means of escape in hospitals for disabled people and hospital in Malaysia has low conformity to the Malaysian Standard for means of escape provided at hospitals. The objective of the study is to identify the requirement for Means of Escape for disabled people in Malaysia, to check the conformity of Malaysian Standard 1183 in three main hospitals in KlangValley and to examine the awareness of occupants on Means of Escape provided at hospitals in Malaysia. In order to get the findings, a questionnaire and check list had been designed. Besides that, an interview session with fire brigade department had been conducted to give additional information to the related case study. The study will gives the report on the conformity of Malaysian Standard 1183 in hospitals and gain knowledge of the instruction that has to follow during using Means of Escape. Some literature review had been done by referring to the previous study such as books, journals and website that related to the topic. Literature review also includes the summary of Malaysian Standard 1183 and the descriptions that are practical for hospital use. Desk study on the building of the case study had been conducted. It is based on the hospital website itself. It includes the history and average capacity of the occupant in the building. The respondents for questionnaire are the administrator and the visitors of the hospitals. Based on the findings from the case study visit, questionnaire survey and interview, a conclusion and a recommendation had been done on the last chapter.
