The used of intranet in disseminating information from top management to all staff : the case of Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) / Sharpini Daud

Intranet is one of the components in e-Government strategies introduced since 1998 under Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) project. Intranet is a medium of communication within the organization which aims to improve operational task and for the organization to become more effective and competence. This study was carried out in one of local authorities in Sabah which is Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK). It emphasized on the usage of Intranet towards the effectiveness of information dissemination in the selected organization. The research method used was quantitative survey and the data was collected through self-directed questionnaire survey. The findings of this study indicates that the level of Intranet usage in DBKK is still not comprehensive as researcher found that different respondents profile have different level of Intranet usage. It was also found that Intranet helps the organization to be more effective in disseminating information from top management to all staff which it is time, cost and resources saving. This study is a means of evaluation on the government policy and has seen the implementation of the policy particularly in local government level. With this study, government would be able to identify the problems and to improve the implementation of e-Government towards achieving its goals and objectives.
