A study of the use of bamboo as a construction material in constructing a resort in Malaysia / Siti Noramira Azhar

Resort is a place that is often use for holiday or as recreation place and supposed to give a peace and breath-taking environment to the users. This research aims to understand the construction method of bamboo in construction industry in Malaysia and the requirement should be applied before or during constructing a bamboo building since bamboo is a sustainable material and one of local material that available in Malaysia. The used of bamboo in Malaysia are not being emphasis enough since bamboo is a bit sensitive and need lots of maintenance. A search for the truth started by understanding the problems that always occurs during the construction process and the requirements and method needed to build a bamboo building going through several books, article and journal, the problem faced by this people began too graspable. The problem is there are lots of method to construct a bamboo building, and every method responded differently to the environment in Malaysia, and it will affect the user and the environment. This qualitative research was inspired by observation on few articles regarding the method to construct a bamboo building. Three resort that located in Malaysia are chosen. Through a comprehensive observation, photo collection, sketching and drafting, the finding data are collected compared and analyses. The data show that there are lots of construction method that can be apply before constructing a bamboo building. From this research, we can deduce that it is important to know how to construct and construction method of bamboo. Initiative to inform regarding the awareness of this case must be done, from the authority to the architect in planning new resort or extend the existing resort and to the management of the resort. Although it might seem like a small component in the resort, but it gives a great impact in creating a better bamboo resort in Malaysia.
