A study on the offence of an attempt to commit suicide under Section 309 of the Penal Code / Suzie Severinus, Christine Gloria Linus and Amir Zulkifli Abdul Latif

This research is a study on the offence of attempt to commit suicide under Section 309 of Penal Code. This book contained 5 chapters and most of the chapters have been revised in the view of the reliable legal sources. As for first chapter it will introduce about the provision itself and together with our aim in this study. Next chapter would talk about literature review and to be noted literature review is one of the essential part during conducting research. The third and fourth chapter would be the next essential part in this study where those two chapters will lead us to the answer that we need. In these chapters, the research is more focused on the issue of the attempt to commit suicide and together with the punishment itself. The situation in Malaysia was compared with another state like United Kingdom and India. This is because, United Kingdom and India has their own version of suicide law. So, we carried it out to see the perspective from other countries and make comparison with the existing law. Other than that, this research also concern on the effectiveness of the punishment to work as deterrence as laid down under the Section 309 of Penal Code. We also touch a little bit on the issue of assisted suicide and euthanasia. This is because countries like United Kingdom and United States have legalized these acts of suicide. Then, the last chapter is where we finally got the answer for our problem statement and thus we stated our recommendations for solution.
