Abstract

The lack of knowledge and not knowing the negative impact of food packaging to environmental is becoming a growing concern. This study was conducted to enhance people’s knowledge about the environmental impact of food packaging. Though many of us are devoting more time and money to eating the cleanest and most sustainably produced foods we can locate and afford, we usually ignore the packaging in which these items are packaged. Food packaging should be as healthy for our health and the environment as the food itself. The research's objectives are presented in this study. This study present two objectives of the study. The first one is to find out the negative environmental impact of food packaging. Second is to examine the current issue in food packaging. Other than that, researcher used a questionnaire using Google form to obtain information for this study. In addition, researcher also used secondary data such as books, internet resources, articles, news and journal to obtain additional information. Through this study, researcher suggested that communities should know the issues of environmental impact of food packaging. Unfortunately, most packaging is designed for single-use and is often discarded rather than reused or recycled. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), food and food packaging products account for about half of all municipal solid trash. In 2014, more than 63 percent of the 258 million tonnes of municipal solid trash generated in the United States was packaging materials (for food and other purposes), and only 35 percent (89 million tonnes) was recycled or composted.
