Traveller / Perline Siek Hwee Ling

Dr. Perline Siek Hwee Ling believes in learning the perspectives towards culture and design of both the East and the West. Her research focuses on Cultural Design and Design Education. Besides spending her time doing research, she likes to do watercolor and acrylic painting. She had participated in various art exhibitions in Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Myanmar. She was a guest speaker for several design talks in Taiwan and China for years. Presently, she is a lecturer at Malaysia Sunway University’s School of Arts, the Department of Art & Design. I love watercolor. It is a medium that you are unable to control fully and manipulate the pigments. You have to allow yourself to immerse in the tender and delicate moments, a time in which you capture the personal emotional response to the subject in your painting. The title of this painting is Traveller. It symbolizes a wise man’s travel to meeting new people, adapting to new situations, gaining new experiences and expanding the mind.
