Abstract

Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) was established on 1 February 1974 with the establishment of the simultaneous Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. Its establishment is to take care of the affairs of Islam in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur that is placed under the Selangor state government before this. MAIWP also responsible for managing the affairs of Muslims in Labuan and Putrajaya after both announced as Federal Territories respectively on 16 April 1984 and 1 February 2001. The establishment of MAIWP expressed through a provision in the Federal Constitution and the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 [Act 505].
