Status of Information Technology Application in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1, Universiti Teknologi MARA: A case study / Masuri Ismail

The purpose of this case study is to investigate the status of IT application in PTAR1. In order to do the investigation, interview session had been done with the Senior Librarian, Mr. Noor Hidayat which is the head Librarian of the Jabatan Pengurusan Sistem dan Teknologi Maklumat (JPSTM) in PTAR 1. He is the most authorize person to answer the questionnaire by looking at his highest position in JPSTM, his experiences and knowledge. Besides, a questionnaire was also distributed to him in order to assist the interview session. There are 10 objectives of this study which are; (1) Determining the budget that has been use by the library in implementing the IT application in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA and to see if the budget that the IT department is enough or not to implement the latest technology as in the library planning; (2) To indicate the level of skill and knowledge of the staff in IT department of Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA. (3) Determining the staff attitude and acceptance towards the application of new technology in the library; (4) To know the overall costs of IT application in IT department in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA; (5) Clarification and internalization of training courses for the staff in IT department in relation to IT application in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA; (6) Determining the use and condition of electronic resources and IT equipment in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA; (7) Identifying the difficulties, challenges and problems related to the use of information technologies in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA; (8) To investigate the automation level and status of IT application in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1), Universiti Teknologi MARA; (9) To know whether the IT application in Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1) is affected by the cost or not and lastly (10) To investigate the Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak 1 (PTAR 1) strength and weaknesses for the future enhancement and development. This study finds that the status of IT application in PTAR 1 is in a good condition and align with today's preferred technology which they have skilful and well trained staff, enough budgets to implement new applications, good staff attitude towards the IT applications and less problems in implementing the IT applications in PTAR1 as they don't have any problems related to the research problems. This study gives good implications which proved that as long as the PTAR1 have a skilful-well-trained staff and enough budgets from the government; they will enhancing and keep their IT applications in PTAR1 up-to-date, in a good condition, well-maintained, relevant and satisfying the patron's need.
