Abstract

Introduction : Rodent infestation is a problem to many urban area and it is endemic, affecting and impacting the quality of life as well as affecting public health by the transmission if infectious diseases. The general objective of this study to determine the rodents species and infestations at wet market in lpoh city. The basic factor is food, water and harborage. It is mainly due to lack of sanitation especially in the wet market area and support by the load of food supply for rodents. The aging and defective building also mainly in the developing countries wet market provides plentiful harborage and the operational hours normally not 24 hours will contribute to infestations, where rodents not prefer noisy and well lighted environment. The specific objectives to determine the pathogen, rodent index and identify the species of rodents in selected wet markets. Rodents are blooming and take advantages in this environment and when the density of rodent are high the health risk will also be high and unpredictable.
Methodology: Location chooses for this study is at the wet market in lpoh city area. Many type of the market is an old building. Some of the building are demolish and rebuild with new design. lpoh have a 23 public markets where 20 of it are belong to City Council and other 3 are belong to the private.
