Abstract

The saturation of private vehicles as a means of transport in urban areas led to severe problems like congestion, pollution, and parking problems. The problem of inadequate parking lots indirectly caused delay to the traffic flow. These problem also occurs at hospital either government hospital or private hospital. Inadequate parking facilities could affect business and hinder the recruitment of certain categories of medical personnel. Take the private hospital in Selangor as a study area, due to its location, the demand of the parking space is always exceeded the parking supply of the study area. A survey was conducted in the parking area of the study area selected. For the purpose, the Cordon Survey and Duration Study were adopted to determine the adequacy of the provision of parking facilities in the study area. This is determined by establish a counting station at the entrance and the exit of the study area. A survey form is developed to record the number of vehicles entering and exiting the parking area for certain duration. These surveys are conducted on Saturday and Tuesday. The results are presented in graph and pie charts as a finding of the study. From that, the hourly excessive demand of the parking facilities at the study area during the survey period is obtained by deducting the demand with the supply. This analysis is useful prior to any recommendation of future plan for the parking facilities or developing new parking space for the private hospitals.
