Abstract

This study focuses on the importance of drama as a teaching activity in an English Language classroom. It tries to confirm the role of drama as a strategy to enhance students' performance in English.

The results of this study show that drama provides a lot of activities that enable the students to use and communicate in the language. Drama activities were also considered as a form of entertainment where students were able to see that learning a language can be fun and enjoyable.

The results of the study also show that most of the students are not familiar with this type of activity. However, they agree to have drama activity in their English class. From the study, students find drama activity as uninteresting as it is quite difficult to perform. They also could not avoid the feeling of shyness within themselves. This might lead students to the problem where they might not have the interest to learn English.

Considering the benefits of drama in the language classrooms, teachers should be more creative and innovative in using drama as a means to enhance their students performance in English.
