Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the factors or motivations that influence share repurchase or share buy-back decision in Malaysia. The research is based on actual share repurchase made by companies that are listed in Main Market. The actual repurchase is constructed through the second announcement made following the first announcement in Bursa Malaysia. The Multiple Linear Regression Model is used in this research by involving repurchased firms and companies using cross sectional data. This study consists of four independent variables; cash flow, dividend paid, leverage ratio, and market-to-book value ratio. The time period of the data sample covers year 2015 involving 86 out of 171 listed companies with financial year end of 31 December. The focus of the study is to determine whether the selected independent variables have relationship or no towards the decision of share repurchase in Malaysia.
