Abstract

UiTM Strengthens Autism Support Through Community Engagement, a targeted community-driven framework implemented to advance autism awareness, advocacy, and inclusive support structures within the higher education landscape. As developmental spectrum disorders demand multidisciplinary care and social integration, universities play a pivotal role in bridging research, clinical support, and community action. Evaluation of this initiative reveals three primary strategic outcomes: (1) Enhancement of Public and Institutional Awareness, breaking social stigmas and promoting neurodiversity education across campus and local communities; (2) Implementation of Targeted Community Support Programs, providing specialized interventions, caregiver resources, and student-led engagement activities; and (3) Strengthening Interdisciplinary Institutional Collaborations, linking academic expertise, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to build sustainable support networks. Overall, this project demonstrates a highly effective model of university social responsibility, highlighting how community engagement can foster a more inclusive ecosystem for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
