Abstract

Skill related fitness components such as agility speed power balance coordination and reaction time are key factors in athletic success for field sports like football and rugby. While football requires frequent directional shifts and continuous sprinting rugby places greater emphasis on physical strength and stability for contact situations like scrums. To address the lack of comparative data on university athletes in Malaysia forty six male student athletes from UiTM Seremban were evaluated across these six fitness areas using standardized field tests. Data collected from twenty three football players and twenty three rugby players were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent samples tests to determine performance differences between the two sports groups.
