This paper highlights the growing applications, broad-ranging benefits, and potential risks associated with nanoparticles across various sectors, with a particular focus on the cosmetics industry. Due to their nanoscale size ($1\text{--}100\text{ nm}$), nanoparticles offer enhanced skin interaction, improved ingredient penetration, stability, solubility, and controlled release mechanisms. In skincare and suncare, advanced formulations such as nanoemulsions, liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs), and metallic nanoparticles (such as silver, gold, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide) optimize hydration, anti-ageing effects, and UV protection without leaving a white residue. Beyond cosmetics, nanoparticles are critical to medicine, food packaging, electronics, energy production, and environmental remediation. However, safety concerns persist regarding their ability to penetrate deep tissues, cause oxidative stress, persist in ecosystems, and harm aquatic life, such as contributing to coral bleaching.
