The critical challenge of maintaining reliable and continuous energy supply for off-grid offshore infrastructure, such as wellhead, satellite, and remote oil rig platforms. Spearheaded by Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Syed Abdul Mutalib Al Junid Syed Abdul Rahman from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and funded by PETRONAS, this initiative focuses on developing novel Self-Sustaining Energy Storage Systems featuring an extraordinary million-cycle charging capability. By substantially mitigating maintenance frequency and extending operational longevity, the proposed system optimizes continuous power delivery in harsh marine environments while minimizing operational expenditures and carbon footprint. Ultimately, this technological advancement provides a highly durable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy framework that enhances the operational reliability and environmental sustainability of remote offshore petroleum operations.
