Abstract

The practical training course (CSC339) is compulsory for all Semester 5 Diploma in Computer Science (CDCS110) students. The duration of the course is six months, or one semester. In order for students to successfully complete their studies and graduate with their diploma, they must complete an internship placement within the course duration at a company in an IT or information systems environment. Additionally, students are allowed to choose the company for their industrial internship. Once their internship application has been approved, an academic supervisor and co-supervisor will be assigned to every student to monitor them throughout the duration of their internship. The main purpose of this course is to equip students with real world working experience in the computer science field. This provides student with exposure to the current industry technologies and gives them the opportunity to apply and practice the theories they have learned in university to real world scenarios. Moreover, this practical training helps to bridge the network between university and industry, giving students the opportunity to establish professional connections and understand industry expectations. During this period, students must understand the objectives of their practical training in order to successfully carry out what they are supposed to do. One of the main objectives is to help students foster a responsible attitude in the real working environment, gain a suitable industrial experience with their respective field of study, and to learn and appreciate the value of professional ethics. Moreover, it is to enhance students’ marketability and competitiveness, develop an entrepreneurial mindset through exposure to real world experiences and career opportunities. Along with this, the practical training’s objective is to train students with the ability to write a well-structured and comprehensive report.
