Invitation on 9th Malaysian International Seminar on Antarctica (MISA9)

Structural focus, key proceedings, and thematic contributions of the 9th Malaysian International Seminar on Antarctica (MISA9), held in a hybrid format from October 25 to 27, 2021. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan Mizan (YPASM), and the National Antarctic Research Centre (NARC), the biennial seminar addressed the critical theme *‘Polar Regions Matter in Our Climate Crisis’*. By convening global researchers across polar and non-polar nations, the conference provided a multidisciplinary platform spanning Policy and Governance, Biological Sciences, and Physical Sciences, alongside targeted webinars and workshops. Featuring plenary presentations by prominent international polar scholars—focusing on global systemic continuity, post-pandemic Antarctic governance, terrestrial ecosystem transitions, and Southern Ocean wind dynamics—MISA9 synthesized findings on atmospheric dynamics, polar oceanography, climate modeling, and biological adaptation to inform future policy frameworks, mitigation strategies, and international scientific cooperation.
