All buildings in Malaysia must conform to the Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 (UBBL), which is the primary regulatory framework for building standards. However, the complexity of the UBBL causes significant challenges for architecture students in applying the by-laws in design. In addition, conventional textbook referencing methods are inefficient, often time consuming and prone to errors. The "UBBL 1984 Fire Safety Requirement GPT" is an innovative AI-powered learning tool designed to address these challenges. Developed using the ChatGPT framework, this tool offers real-time, personalized responses tailored to users' specific inquiries, effectively interpreting complex regulatory language to provide up-to-date and precise, context-specific feedback. Its natural language interactions make understanding the UBBL more intuitive and engaging (Baidoo-Anu & Owusu Ansah, 2023; Montenegro Rueda et al., 2023; Noy & Zhang, 2023; Yu, 2024). The chat- and voice-based interface enables students to obtain guidance anytime, anywhere, on any device, and includes multilingual capabilities to support diverse learning needs (Baidoo-Anu & Owusu Ansah, 2023). The tool also has strong commercialization potential for professional practices and regulatory bodies, reducing time and costs while improving compliance (Lee et al., 2024; Pham et al., 2023). This AI-driven approach represents a significant innovation in architectural education and regulatory compliance.
