Abstract

he main objective of this project is to control the speed of a separately-excited DC motor using microcontroller PIC16F877A. It is a closed-loop real-time control system, where a rotary encoder is connected to the motor shaft to provide a feedback signal to the controller. The infrared sensor will detect how many pulses of the encoder and will send a feedback signal to the controller. A driver will be connected to drive the motor and speed control is achieved by PWM technique using the microcontroller. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is used where its signal is generated in the microcontroller. The PWM signals are sent to the motor driver to vary the voltage supply to the motor, thus controlling its speed. PI controller is implemented into the microcontroller to control the speed of the motor. Through this project, it can be concluded that digital feedback signal can be use to control the speed of motor
