Abstract

Public parks are essential components of urban environments as they provide recreational opportunities, promote social interaction, and enhance residents’ quality of life. The effectiveness of these spaces largely depends on user satisfaction with the facilities and services offered. This study assesses user satisfaction with facilities at D.R. Seenivasagam Recreational Park, Ipoh. The objectives are: (1) to systematically assess the readiness and physical condition of the facilities to assess the level of user satisfaction with the facilities provided, (2) to identify and analyze the main factors that influence user satisfaction, including in terms of cleanliness, safety, comfort, and overall quality of the facilities and amenities here, and (3) to provide recommendations for improvements based on solid evidence to improve facilities and management to ensure that the development of the park is sustainable and focused on user satisfaction. A mixed-method approach was employed, incorporating questionnaire surveys and field observations among visitors aged 18 years and above, selected through convenience sampling. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical techniques to evaluate satisfaction across dimensions such as cleanliness, safety, comfort, accessibility, and amenities. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of user satisfaction and offer practical insights for the Ipoh City Council in enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of public park management.
