Bulletin.
Universiti Teknologi MARA, Negeri Sembilan.
Abstract
In the Malaysian workplace, making a request is a complex social act where language choice English or Malay reflects distinct cultural values. While English-language requests among peers often prioritize efficiency and equality using first-name alerters to grab attention, Malay-language requests utilize alerters to signal respect and maintain social harmony, showcasing how politeness strategies vary across linguistic contexts.
