Abstract
Despite extensive scientific knowledge on environmental issues like flooding, water pollution, and climate change, these challenges persist and escalate due to a failure to implement practical solutions rather than a lack of research. Wetland ecosystems including mangroves, peat swamps, marshes, and floodplains exemplify this disconnect: despite their well-documented ability to mitigate floods by absorbing excess rainfall, filter pollutants to improve water quality, and regulate climate by storing vast amounts of carbon, their crucial ecological benefits continue to be ignored in policy and practice.
