Abstract

Researchers investigated using aquaculture wastewater, including tilapia and catfish effluent, to cultivate Spirulina platensis as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to synthetic growth media. Results demonstrated that tilapia wastewater significantly outperformed catfish wastewater by yielding higher biomass, chlorophyll, and protein contents that rivalled traditional standards. This approach successfully transforms aquaculture waste into valuable nutrients, promoting environmental sustainability and supporting efficient microalgae bioprocessing.
