Abstract

Seri Iskandar, 26–29 January 2026 – UiTM Cawangan Perak launched the Food Waste Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Project 2026–2027 to strengthen sustainable food waste management on campus. Led by the Green Campus Committee under Unit 3: Green Lifestyles and Recreational, the initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Perak Tengah District Council (MDPT). The project involves 21 campus food vendors, who received designated food waste bins as part of efforts to improve food waste segregation and promote the use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae as an ecofriendly solution to convert organic waste into valuable resources such as compost and agricultural feed. Supported by strategic partners including MDPT, the UiTM Perak Commercial Space Committee (JKRN), the Facilities Management Division (BPF), and the Student Residence and Hospitality Unit (URHP), the initiative reflects a collaborative approach towards sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. The project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing UiTM Perak's commitment to building a greener and more sustainable campus.
