Green trash collection Faculty of Applied Sciences with UiTM Green Centre

The “Free Trash Mission” community service programme was successfully conducted at Tanjung Lipat Beach, Likas, Sabah through a collaboration between the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Scienergy Association, and the UiTM Green Centre (UGC), UiTM Sabah Branch. The programme, themed “Clean Beach, Prosperous Community”, aimed to promote environmental awareness and social responsibility among students and the local community. The programme involved approximately 60 students from the Diploma of Science and Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Biology programmes, who participated in beach cleaning activities from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Participants collected various types of waste, including rubbish, discarded tyres, branches, and food packaging waste, contributing to a cleaner coastal environment. In addition to environmental activities, the programme included team-building activities such as games and group challenges to strengthen teamwork, leadership, and student engagement. The initiative provided students with valuable experiences in community service while fostering a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation. The programme was officiated and supported by faculty members, including Dr. Ajis Lepit, Dr. Mohd Faizal Achoi (UGC Coordinator UiTM Sabah Branch), Ts. Siti Aminah Mohammad, and other academic staff. The programme concluded with an appreciation ceremony and prizes for the teams that collected the highest amount of waste. The initiative reflects UiTM’s commitment to promoting sustainability, community engagement, and environmental stewardship through impactful student-led activities.
