UiTM, UGC (2026) International beach clean up 2026 strengthens environmental sustainability awareness. Bulletin. UiTM Green Centre, Shah Alam.
Abstract

UiTM Terengganu Branch successfully organised the International Beach Clean Up 2026 programme along the coastline from UiTM Dungun Campus to Desa Dungun Golf Club. The programme brought together 94 participants, including UiTM students and staff, members of Geng Plastik Ijau (GPI), the local community, and international students from Indonesia, Thailand, and India participating in the Heritage 2026 Programme. The initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability by raising awareness of coastal conservation and protecting marine ecosystems from pollution. Participants took part in a plogging activity, collecting various types of waste, including plastic bottles, food packaging, polystyrene, beverage cans, and fishing lines. A total of 203.01 kg of litter was collected, significantly improving the cleanliness of the beach while providing participants with valuable hands-on learning about environmental conservation. The programme also encouraged cross-cultural exchange, with international participants sharing perspectives on environmental conservation practices in their respective countries, reinforcing the importance of collective global action. The programme supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting UiTM's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable community engagement.
