Abstract

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) 5 package (H5P), a free and open-source HTML5 framework, has emerged as a powerful tool for instructional designers to create engaging and interactive learning experiences using the online learning platform. Open University Malaysia (OUM) has been producing learning materials such as modules from Portable Document Format (PDF) to H5P format. While H5P sees widespread use, its efficacy needs deeper exploration within user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) environments. H5P offers a versatile platform for creating and sharing interactive content seamlessly integrated with existing learning management systems (LMS). Through a comprehensive review of literature and empirical evidence, we highlight the effectiveness of H5P in promoting learner engagement, active participation, and knowledge gaining across diverse disciplines. Moreover, we explore the affordances of H5P in fostering personalised learning pathways, adaptive feedback mechanisms, and collaborative learning environments. This paper investigates the potential of H5P to enhance knowledge acquisition, retention, and critical thinking skills in a competitive university setting. This research will shed light on H5P’s true potential for driving academic excellence at the university level. This paper contributes to the discourse on leveraging technology-enhanced learning tools to foster inclusive, interactive, and impactful educational experiences in higher education.
