Abstract
On 15 June 2026, the Selangor State Fisheries Department, in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FSG), UITM Shah Alam, and the Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development (IBSD), UiTM Shah Alam, organised the Marine Conservation Awareness Programme: An Integrated Approach from Science to Policy at Dewan Anjung Seri Budiman, UiTM Shah Alam. The event was officiated by YBrs. Puan Noraisyah binti Abu Bakar, Director of the Selangor State Fisheries Department. It brought together academics, researchers, staff, and students to raise awareness on marine biodiversity conservation and endangered species in Malaysia. The programme featured briefings on artificial reef development and monitoring, the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems, an introduction to the Malaysian Fisheries Resource Management System (MyFiRSt), and amendments to the Fisheries Act 1985 [Act 317]. Through an integrated approach linking science, data systems, policy, and legislation, the programme served as an important platform to strengthen understanding, strategic networking, and collective commitment towards the conservation of the nation's marine resources. It is hoped that this initiative will continue to enhance awareness and collective action in preserving marine biodiversity for future generations.
