Abstract
Higher annual precipitation in Malaysia contributed to more frequent flash floods, causing total losses of RM 6.5 billion (2021), RM 1 billion (2022) and RM 168.3 million (2023), apart from faster inundation rate, affecting authorities abilities to save all victims in time. Thereby, effective and fast mode of self-evacuating the flooded premises while being able to save precious belongings and also family members with movement disabilities, at least to nearest safe zone, is of paramount importance. The invention, Multiuso LWC, is a smart lightweight multi-purpose compact flood rescue box with integrated live-time warning system. The invention consists of lightweight concrete base utilizing waste bottles and polysterene, topped by storage box equipped with sensor to detect the rising level of water with respect to the ground level. The base and storage box utilize the buoyancy principle, whereby the buoyancy of the system is inversely proportional to the mass and density of materials but directly proportional to the volume of air entrapped. The sensor is linked to speaker and LED display, and provides staggered warnings corresponding to the water rise, time to start putting items or disabled victim in the box and final warning to indicate time to leave the premise safely.
