Proceedings of the 9th Asia-Pacific library & information education and practice (A-LIEP 2019)

This academic article evaluates the evolution, structural dynamics, and educational frameworks of library and information science (LIS) by examining the proceedings, collaborative initiatives, and professional practice trends highlighted at the 9th Asia-Pacific Library & Information Education and Practice (A-LIEP 2019) conference. Organized by the Faculty of Information Management at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), this international forum addressed the pivotal shifts in LIS education and professional practice across the Asia-Pacific region amid advancing digital technologies, emerging information infrastructures, and evolving user paradigms. To systematically map these developments, this review analyzes conference contributions across three core operational axes: (1) Innovation in LIS Curriculum Design and Pedagogy, evaluating the integration of informatics, digital literacy, and data science into contemporary degree programs; (2) Digital Transformation and Information Service Delivery, examining advancements in automated cataloging, meta-search platforms, virtual reference systems, and digital humanities repositories; and (3) Regional Collaboration and Professional Capacity Building, assessing cross-institutional research networks and industry-academic partnerships designed to enhance information management standards. The synthesized proceedings demonstrate that modernizing LIS education requires balancing traditional library stewardship with cutting-edge digital competencies to address complex global information challenges. Ultimately, this research provides an applied knowledge matrix and administrative blueprint for LIS educators, information professionals, and academic administrators seeking to align educational curricula with the demands of the digital knowledge economy
