Life on land: why it matters

UiTM, Faculty of Civil Engineering (2025) Life on land: why it matters. Bulletin. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Shah Alam.

Abstract

Protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems is vital for preserving global biodiversity and ensuring human survival. This paper examines the critical importance of forests, wetlands, and drylands in maintaining ecological balance, combatting desertification, and halting land degradation. It highlights how deforestation and habitat loss accelerate species extinction, disrupt water cycles, and exacerbate climate change. By analyzing sustainable land management practices, wildlife conservation strategies, and institutional policies, the study underscores that safeguarding life on land is essential for sustaining livelihoods and securing a resilient environment.
