Life below water: why it matters

UiTM, Faculty of Civil Engineering (2025) Life below water: why it matters. Bulletin. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Shah Alam.

Abstract

Conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas, and marine resources is crucial for maintaining global biodiversity and supporting human survival. This paper examines the critical importance of marine ecosystems in regulating the global climate, producing oxygen, and providing food security for billions of people. It highlights the severe threats posed by marine pollution, overfishing, and ocean acidification caused by human activities. By exploring sustainable fisheries management, marine protected areas, and international conservation policies, the study underscores that protecting life below water is essential for ecological balance and long-term planetary health.
