Clean water and sanitation: why it matters

UiTM, Faculty of Civil Engineering (2025) Clean water and sanitation: why it matters. Bulletin. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Shah Alam.

Abstract

Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human need and a cornerstone of global public health and sustainable development. This paper explores the critical importance of managing water resources sustainably to ensure universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities. It examines how poor water quality and lack of sanitation contribute to the spread of waterborne diseases, hindering economic productivity and trapping communities in poverty. By investing in resilient water infrastructure and hygiene education, societies can significantly reduce mortality rates, protect ecosystems, and foster healthier, more equitable environments.
