Abstract
Accelerating environmental degradation caused by mismanaged solid waste highlights a critical societal need for increased recycling awareness and improved waste disposal practices. To address this issue, UiTM Johor Branch, Segamat Campus organized the community-driven program “Think Before You Throw, Let’s Recycle”. This paper examines how the initiative simultaneously targets environmental sustainability and pedagogical advancement by structuring the campaign around the university's Principles and Practice of Management (MGT420) course. The project serves as an experiential learning platform where higher education students translate abstract management theories—specifically the core functions of project planning, organizing, and implementation—into actionable community interventions. The findings demonstrate that embedding environmental advocacy into the business management curriculum dualistically mitigates local pollution risks by cultivating civic responsibility while fundamentally improving students' operational leadership, strategic planning capabilities, and professional competencies.
