Abstract
SAFODA (Sabah Forestry Development Authority) was established in 1976 with the initial objective to reforest 250,000 ha of degraded land (dominated by lalang) in the northern region of Sabah and start enforced on 01 January 1977. However, due to the various problems of land acquisition and further redelineation exercises, SAFODA currently has a much reduced land bank of about 63,7181 ha throughout Sabah, mainly in the Bengkoka, Kota Marudu and Keningau districts. Currently, it has about 21 ,992 ha of forest plantation. The species planted are mainly Acacia mangium (19,119 ha), high value timber (414 ha) and rattan (2,399 ha).
