This report outlines a 24 weeks industrial experience at Cohu Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a company that produces semiconductor test and inspection equipment worldwide. Cohu Malaysia is a large manufacturing and engineering centre that is operated in Ayer Keroh at Melaka. The firm provides sophisticated test handlers, testers, interface solutions, as well as spare parts which serve the electronics, automotive and industrial markets. The company spends a lot of emphasis on innovation, quality, and sustainability as guided by its mission to improve semiconductor manufacturing by offering efficient test cell solutions. The trainees were assigned to the Spares Department which is one of the important departments in the documentation of spare parts, coordination of shipment of spare parts and the management of the spare parts. The trainees were specifically designated to the sub-unit within the Spares Department and day-to-day work was to scan pick slips, update planner systems, shipment documentation, watch the capacity of the warehouse/QC. These activities helped in easy functioning in the department and provided a great learning experience in the field of real-life logistic functionality, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration in a global firm environment. This internship enabled the trainee to acquire important skills to be used at the workplace such as time management, flexibility, and communication. The experience also gave me an insight into Cohu organizational culture and strength of operations and weaknesses that it identified using a SWOT analysis. It was recommended to increase the efficiency of communication, employee career development, and resilience to global supply chain and regulatory risks- to ensure that Cohu Malaysia has the competitive edge in the rapidly changing semiconductor market.
