Automated vehicle management system using barcode scanner

In Universiti Teknologi MARA Perlis, most of the students have the opportunity to go to their classes with their own vehicle. This will lead to the increasing numbers of vehicle that came in and out of the campus. Currently, all of the vehicle must be registered to acquire the sticker which allows the students to enter the campus. However, in order to get the sticker, student must register their information at the auxiliary’s office which will be time consuming. Thus, the objective of this project is to develop an Automated Vehicle Management System to help solve the problems. There is no automated system available in Universiti Teknologi MARA Perlis in order to automatically manage and organize all of the students’ record in a database. The system was developed using Notepad++ with PHP programming language and the system used MySQL to develop the database of the system. A handheld barcode scanner was also used in this system so that auxiliary police can scan students’ metric card and automatically store the record in the database. Automated Vehicle Management System was tested using usability and functionality testing by potential users of Universiti Teknologi MARA Perlis. The respondents were highly recommended this system to be implemented in Universiti Teknologi MARA Perlis in the future. Other than that, project can be improved by replacing the barcode scanner with a much sophisticated detection device and by making this system into a hybrid application.
