Development of an online room booking system for university accommodation

University accommodation is one of the facilities allocated for the use of all university members. At UiTM Perlis university accommodation consists of dormitories and guest houses which can be used for public rent. In order to make reservation, the lodger have to come to Cengal College Office then fill in the manual form. However, it is time consuming for the lodger to wait for reservation approval from Rector. The objectives of the project are to automate the existing manual system and to evaluate the effectiveness of online room booking system by using usability test and user acceptance test. The online booking system were developed by using PHP and MySQL languages and in order to develop the system ERD, use case diagram, flowchart and testbed were designed. Two testing were conducted to collect the result which were usability testing and user acceptance testing. 60% of respondents were strongly agree and 36.67% of respondents were agree that the online room booking system is useful for them. Also 76.67% respondents were really satisfied with the performance of the system. Thus, this project found out that the online room booking system does help user in booking rooms when the user can save time and quickly help users find a suitable room.
