ENGENIOUS: learning English using social media feeds

Social media delivers public content in many types of information. It can be used to assist learner to get proper source of class learning socially. Nowadays, university students are not really in class oriented to learn in university. Flip classes and blended learning are the current style of university policy for teaching and learning. However, most of them struggles to prepare their students with proper learning materials. With social media feeds, students will get different style of learning interest and intimation. This project aims to provide English language teaching materials using social media content from Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. The cumulative contents from the social media will be positioned in a prototype using social media Application Programming Interface (API). Literature review has been conducted to explore about university practises for teaching and learning, social media environment and programming and acceptance testing for an application. A prototype has been established to demonstrate this study. The evaluation of the prototype involved 35 respondents and the result showed that 48.57% of them decide to accept the prototype as useful application for their English language teaching and learning platform. It is recommended to use prevalent references in the prototype to suit with the university requirements. In conclusion, social media contents from API programming undoubtedly supports university teaching and learning practices especially for English education.
