An interactive animated comic of paedophile awareness among children

Paedophile issues is a nightmare to those children who became the victims as they might suffer for their whole life. Awareness of paedophile is still generally low among people in Malaysia especially children that it requires a creative and attractive method to deliver the message. The application named as ‘i-ComPedo’. ‘i-ComPedo’ is stands for an interactive animated comic of paedophile awareness among children. ‘i-ComPedo’ is designed and developed to create an awareness about paedophile. This research focuses on the integration of animated comic and interactive multimedia using storytelling elements. This research developed an interactive animated comic of paedophile awareness by using multimedia application for children developed in this research. The storytelling uses comic concept to express the idea of the story to attract the children’s attention and to increase understanding. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to develop an interactive animated comic of paedophile awareness among children. The study adopted ADDIE Model as a guideline to accomplish the project, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation phases. In order to evaluate the usefulness of i-‘ComPedo’, this study conducted three main testing process which are Quasi- experiment, usability testing and user acceptance that involved children and teachers. The result from Quasi-experiment proved the effectiveness of the application in creating awareness among primary school children aged 9-11 years old with 13.4 % increment of knowledge and understanding of paedophile issues. The children perceived ‘i-Compedo’ as an interesting, understandable, usable and comfortable courseware in usability testing session with successful tasks percentage is 91.2 %. The application was highly accepted by the targeted users as the overall user acceptance mean score is 4.39 in creating paedophile awareness among children. As a conclusion, an interactive animated comic is developed to offer a new and innovative approach in creating awareness among children about paedophile.
