Abstract
IOI Corporation Berhad (MYX:1961) or commonly referred to as IOI, was incorporated on 31 October 1996 as Industrial Oxygen Incorporated Sdn. Bhd. IOI is one of Malaysia's biggest conglomerates that started off from industrial gas manufacturing. It ventured into property development in 1982, followed by oil palm plantation in 1985. As at June 200, IOI group employs more than 30,000 personnel of more than 23 different nationalities in 15 countries. IOI listed on the main board of the KLSE (now known as Bursa Malaysia). Subsidiaries IOI Properties Berhad and IOI Oleo Chemical Industries Berhad (Industrial Product) were separately de-listed from the exchange and duly privatized under IOI Corporation Berhad in April 2009 and March 2006 respectively (Wikipedia). Currently, the group executive chairman is Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng. Mr. Lee· has as two sons and four daughters, all were trained as lawyers. Mr. Lee also and his family 's control of IOI Corporation is held via Progressive Holdings Sdn. Although all of Lee's children work for the company, son Dato' Lee Yeow Chor and Lee Yeow Seng are given more prominence as seen in their representation in IOI Corporation Berhad board of directors. Today, IOI Group is internationally known as a leading global integrated palm oil player with operations stretching the entire palm value chain from seedling to plantation crop oil extraction to deserve value-added manufacturing across major continence- serving global markets in more than 65 countries. Close to its home-base in Malaysia, the group is also prominently known as one of leading property developer with significant investment holdings of prime real-estates.
