Abstract
B-FLO, which stands for Bomba Flood Logistic Operations, is a groundbreaking amphibious transport solution designed to enhance the flood rescue operations conducted by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in Kedah. This project aims to tackle significant operational hurdles like strong water currents, rising flood levels, limited access to remote areas, and the absence of vehicles that can easily transition between land and water all of which pose risks to both rescue teams and those affected by floods. To make this happen, a mixedmethods approach was used. Quantitative data was collected through structured questionnaires sent to Bomba personnel and volunteer firefighters from JPBM Kedah, while qualitative insights were gathered through interviews and field observations. These findings informed the design criteria for B-FLO, emphasizing amphibious capability, buoyancy, stability in rough waters, quick deployment, structural durability, agile manoeuvrability, and a modern visual identity that fits emergency situations. The need for this project arises from the pressing demand for sustainable and adaptable rescue technology that meets the challenges of Malaysia’s increasingly flood-prone landscape. By aligning the design with the actual needs of rescue operations, B-FLO guarantees both functional reliability and operational relevance in high-risk situations. The standout feature of B-FLO is its ability to combine land and water mobility into one rescue platform, which 593 leads to quicker response times and enhanced safety. The discussion underscores B-FLO’s potential as a game-changing solution in disaster management, providing a robust, forward-thinking tool for emergency responders in Malaysia.
